I am a U.S. citizen with a MBA and MA in International Business. I am interested in starting an Import/Export business that sources solely out of China. I’d like to know what kind of financial and other business start-up and sustainable assistance are available to get me off the ground. I am presently in the process of registering my corporation in the State of California

ANSWER:

First off, congratulations on completing your MBA and starting an import/export business. I’m afraid at the China Sourcing Information Center we have a lot of information about buying from China, but not too much about how to set up businesses in USA and arrange start-up capital.   But I have a few suggestions based on my experience living in the USA and starting a sourcing business many years ago.

  1. Check with your local office of the US Small Business Administration. http://www.sba.gov/ They could probably get you pointing in the right direction in terms of business startup and finance.
  2. In terms of resources about sourcing form China, I have plenty of ideas for you.

The following free resources are worth a look:

a)    China Sourcer monthly e-magazine. Subscribe at www.ChinaSourcingInfo.org and visit their archive as well.

b)   RSS my blog on China sourcing at www.ChinaSourcingInfo.org

  1. The Essential Reference Guide to China Sourcing” ( http://chinasourcinginfo.org/book/ ) would also help you learn more.

Hope these ideas get you pointed in the right direction.

Wishing you successful China sourcing!
